The gradual shift away from laptop and desktop computers as the primary tool for using the internet - to be replaced by mobile phones - has left those companies which have flourished during the internet era looking to make sure that they are not left behind. When it comes to adapting to the new mobile internet market the two basic models are mobile sites and mobile apps with a number of companies – including a lot of the online games ones – choosing to focus primarily on mobile sites.
So why are they considered the best option?
Bigger Reach
Mobile sites offer those who set them up the widest possible reach within the mobile internet user market, because anyone surfing the net on their mobile can access such a site simply by inputting the URL or searching for the site. By comparison apps have to be specifically sought out and downloaded onto the phone before users can access them, which means you have to promote them and hope that people are willing to go through the process. Although there are game apps being produced, the big online companies like
Lucky Nugget are focusing much of their energies on developing their mobile sites for these reasons.
Ease of use
In pretty much every way a mobile site offers a much more straightforward option for the user from the fact that they do not actually have to locate and install it onto the phone to begin using it, to the fact that any improvements and upgrades can be handled directly by the company, whereas with an app the company can deal with any glitches but the user will still have to keep installing upgraded versions of it each time. Ideally you should be monitoring the user experience all the time by paying attention to what people are saying about it, but if there are problems with the first version people are likely to be less and less willing to download refined versions of the app.
